The Project

The detached coachouse style property was a lovely setting to bring the family space out toward and into the garden. The idea was to use the extension shape as the feature, stepping it along the property at the rear, and avoid a simple square box. We were able to play around with ways to divide the zones internally and this ensured that we used the building to set the furniture, rather than the other way around.

Design Challenge

The roof was key, and the importance was set from the off to make it a striking feature. We wished for the overhang to be clad in a neat sustainable timber, but importantly have a thin, clean, uninterrupted visual profile. This meant the construction had to be very clever to overcome the details within the design. The doors extend to the overhang, tricky steel details were designed and fabricated and the end result showcases an example of cutting edge construction to achieve what is a simple and understated , yet gorgeous, appearance.
