The Project

The brief was to take an existing compact flat in central London and re-configure the space to work as a modern & flexible space. The idea was to use a combination of fixed joinery, moving walls/ doors, flexible kitchen spaces and raised boxing & storage to help designate the zones. Using well finished joinery and bespoke shapes was key to make the flat feel highly finished and use, but not overload the limited space.

The entire process was fast paced, with all permissions and the tender obtained very quickly, and similarly the project was quick to be realised on site. It demonstrates well, how with limited space, a well-defined flat can be created and the internal experience changes from each angle.

Design Challenge

The flat is extremely compact, and the challenge was to design a modern studio living space that offered the owner the flexibility to live, sleep and eat in the same room. The build was challenging due to the tight working space, being located on the 7^th floor and also offering very little access for deliveries. We have achieved a great deal in a small space and the light tones and simple design creates a feeling of open space living in a very small studio flat.
