The Project

Our client, who owned the entire building while living in one of the apartments, wanted to add a penthouse floor to the property. This would serve as an additional unit and complete with the restoration throughout it would create a focal point along the street.

Externally the building was completely restored and renovated to make what was a tired 1960's building into a modern structure. Internally the space has been beautifully finished with stylish design items used throughout. The modern interpretation of the mansard roof creates an impressive penthouse suite.

Design Challenge

The height of this building and minimising the effects on the neighbouring buildings were key design considerations. Thinking about the impact on light and the potential overbearing nature of the building was incredibly important.

As such a 3D model was carefully produced to identify areas where views could be maximised by glazing and other areas where overlooking was a concern. Where the latter was identified, and light was still required in the spaces, alternative shapes and positions were used.
