The Project

The existing internal configuration saw the kitchen and living spaces housed within a small, glazed, side and rear extension. We wished to explore the design fully to understand how to use and improve such a disjointed space. The clients were open to letting this exploration dictate the spaces inside rather than simply opting to fill the external areas and create a typical open plan area.

Design Challenge

Submitting the correct Planning and Permitted Development applications is a key part of realising a project. We have a great understanding of the local framework and vast experience in applying it. For this project, we used a combination of 3 submissions to achieve the desired, completed project. If we had not have taken this approach, the proposed scheme would not have been approved by the council. It was crucially important that all of the applications worked with each when put together and that there were no discrepancies between design and construction. The skill, at times, is as much in the execution of the design, as the design itself.
