The Project

The proposal was a huge labour of love to try and achieve the perfect balance of restoration to a beautiful building, but also introduce some modern touches and finishing items that would help the building work for modern living. Great attention to detail was applied to a number of key design details such as internal bespoke glazing divides and exposed beams, built in joinery throughout, beautifully arranged bathroom & reception rooms as well as a hidden staircase and a large sliding rooflight.

The client and design & build team all worked hard through long periods to achieve what is now a brilliant example of a Brighton restoration. The internal finish is of high quality and timeless in style and the makes the final look one that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Design Challenge

Due to the building being listed, every new addition of modern improvement required a process of development in design to see the most cost effective, yet respectful means of building. One area in particular was the modern exposed steel work, and crittal glass proposed internally to the kitchen space. The merging of glass, steel, the exiting building shell, and also the bespoke joinery involved extreme attention to detail and co-ordination.
